II.1.5) Short Description of the contract or purchase(s) Service providers are required to carry out manual traffic counts at specified sites on the road network in 21 areas across England,Scotland and Wales. These counts are required for 2011 and 2012, with the possibility of a one year extension for 2013. Manual Traffic Counts are undertaken at a specified location on a given weekday (Monday-Friday) during Spring, Early Summer and Autumn months. Traffic counts are carried out for a 12 hour period (7am-7pm) and data is collected for all directions of traffic by vehicle type (eleven different vehicle types). There is also a requirement for an additional sample of manual traffic counts in London. These counts will be carried out four times at each specified location, undertaken throughout the year for a 16hr (6am-10pm) or 24 hr period (midnight to midnight). Please note that whilst the service required will remain broadly similar to the current requirements, there may be a reduction in the number of counts required. Further details will be provided at the ITT stage. Contracts will be let for England, Scotland and Wales which have been divede into 21 areas. (Please see PQQ for further details). Bidders are invited to tender for any combination of areas.
